Agencia Bolivariana para Actividades Espaciales (ABAE)
Established in 2008 with its headquarters situated in Caracas, the ABAE is a specialised agency responsible for implementing both technical and national policies, as well as guidelines for using outer space for peaceful purposes, emanating from the governing body on science and technology. Also, it is responsible for generating national space projects, programs and regulations.

The first Venezuelan remote sensing satellite, it was successfully launched in China on 29 September 2012 from Jiuquan Satellite Launching Center (JSLC). The VRSS-1 or Miranda Satellite is aimed at providing satellite images to support decision-making processes at governmental level in areas such as urban and agricultural planning, environmental management, disaster management and energy, among others.
The satellite orbits at approximately 639km on a sun-synchronous orbit (SSO) and has a lifetime of five years.
