Typhoon Kammuri in Philippines
Typhoon Kammuri is expected to make landfall in the Philippines in the coming days. Forecasts predict wind speeds of 150mph and up to 400mm of rainfall, which could cause flooding and landslides.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) released a statement with details of Kammuri intensifying into a super typhoon, the equivalent of a Category 3 hurricane.
In an advisory, NDRRMC said Kammuri would bring "heavy damage to high-risk structures, unroof houses made of medium-strength materials, damage shrubbery, break or uproot large trees, and topple electric posts".
Local government councils in the Bicol region, where a typhoon warning been raised, has urged people to evacuate from shoreline communities due to an expected storm surge of up to 8.5 metres.
NOAA satellite imagery shows that Kammuri is holding a larger volume of water than super typhoon Haiyan which hit the Philippines in 2013.
