Description de l'évènement

Hurricane Irma is continuing its path across the Caribbean islands raising red alerts and evacuations across the Caribbean. It is expected to affect the Dominican Republic on 8 September.

Irma originated from a tropical storm which developed on 30 August 2017, and has quickly developed into a full Category 5 storm. Category 5 is the highest grade on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, and indicates a storm that could cause catastrophic damage.

Local agencies are reporting that Irma is potentially catastrophic and preparations should take place to preserve life and property.

Irma has passed across Barbuda battering the island with high winds, and the storm is now moving towards Anguilla and then onto the Dominican Republic. It is expected to hit Florida at the weekend.
