Flood in Kazakhstan
In early July 2026, heavy rainfall triggered localized flooding and riverbank erosion across Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region, with the most affected areas reported in the Karasay and Enbekshikazakh districts. The intense rainfall caused rivers to overflow, resulting in damage to riverbanks, roads and surrounding infrastructure.
In Karasay District, the Aksay River overflowed near Zhanaturmys village, causing significant bank erosion and soil instability in areas adjacent to a quarry. The situation prompted local authorities to declare a state of emergency, while precautionary evacuations were carried out for residents of nearby homes. No casualties were reported.
In Enbekshikazakh District, rising water levels and runoff caused localized flooding along roads and infrastructure, leading to transport disruptions and damage to some access routes. Emergency teams carried out riverbank reinforcement, debris removal and restoration activities to reduce further impacts and support affected communities.
Authorities continued to monitor the region due to ongoing risks of mudflows and landslides associated with unstable weather conditions. Response efforts focused on protecting residents, stabilizing affected areas and restoring essential infrastructure.
