Hurricane Melissa in Jamaica
Hurricane Melissa struck Jamaica on 26 October 2025, bringing intense rainfall, destructive winds, and storm surges that triggered widespread flooding and landslides across several parishes. The storm which also impacted the Dominican Republic and Cuba, caused severe damage to infrastructure, homes, and agricultural land, particularly in the parishes of St. Thomas, Portland, and St. Mary. Thousands of residents were displaced as rivers overflowed and transport routes were cut off. Emergency teams launched rescue and relief operations, supported by satellite imagery and geospatial data to map inundated zones, assess damage to critical infrastructure, and coordinate response efforts across the affected countries.
