Tropical storm Melissa in Dominican Republic
Hurricane Melissa affected the Dominican Republic on 27–28 October 2025, following its earlier impacts in Jamaica and preceding its landfall in Cuba. The storm brought torrential rainfall, strong winds, and coastal flooding, particularly in the eastern provinces, causing widespread damage to homes, infrastructure, and agriculture. Rivers overflowed, triggering landslides and isolating communities, while thousands of residents were evacuated to safer areas. Satellite imagery and geospatial data were used to support emergency response efforts, helping authorities map affected regions, assess structural and environmental damage, and coordinate relief and recovery operations across the hardest-hit areas.
