Landslide in Sudan

On August 31, 2025, a massive landslide destroyed the village of Tarasin in the Marrah Mountains of Central Darfur, Sudan, after days of heavy rain. Reports estimate between 300 and 1,000 deaths, with only one known survivor, and about 100 bodies recovered so far.

Aid groups, describe the area as extremely difficult to reach, and international agencies are being urged to provide urgent assistance. The disaster, occurring during Sudan’s peak flooding season, highlights how climate change is worsening natural disasters in an already vulnerable region.
