Typhoon Bavi in the Philippines
Typhoon Bavi, though not making direct landfall in the Philippines, significantly amplified seasonal monsoon rains across the country. Its massive circulation triggered devastating rain-induced landslides and widespread flooding before the storm moved northward toward Taiwan, Japan, and eastern China, where it transitioned into a super typhoon.
The severe weather caused catastrophic impacts across several regions. In the town of Malapatan, Sarangani Province, a massive landslide hit Barangay Poblacion and resulted in 10 confirmed deaths. In Lanao del Sur, a separate rain-induced landslide killed five individuals and left six others missing. Meanwhile, disaster management councils reported that at least 102 barangays across the broader Soccsksargen Region have been directly impacted.
In response, emergency responders, local volunteers, and soldiers are actively digging through thick sludge and debris to locate missing persons. Authorities continue to warn residents in mountainous and low-lying areas to remain highly vigilant for secondary flash floods.
