Wolf volcano eruption in Ecuador

Wolf Volcano in Ecuador erupted on 5 and 7 January, emitting a plume of ash almost 4000 meters above sea level.

The volcano is located on Isabel Island, in the Galapagos Islands, and is part of the Galapagos National Park. The population of the island is situated outside the area of the eruption, and as such the volcano poses no imminent threat to habitation on the island. A team of scientists and park guards were evacuated from the vicinity of the volcano, however.

The eruption will continue to be monitored, including the direction the lava flow takes.
