Tropical Cyclone Wipha in Laos (Lao People's Democratic Republic)

Tropical Cyclone Wipha caused severe flooding and landslides across several provinces in Laos. In Houaphanh Province, seven people were reported missing, and many villages were inundated.

Since mid-June 2025, southern provinces such as Savannakhet and Saravan had experienced rapidly rising rivers, which flooded more than 50 villages and damaged homes, farmland, and roads. In early July, northern and central regions—including Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Khammuan—faced landslides and flash floods, resulting in at least one death and several people missing.

This flooding followed the previous year’s destructive monsoon season, which had displaced tens of thousands and caused widespread damage to infrastructure.

Authorities issued flood warnings, deployed emergency response teams, and urged residents in high-risk areas to stay alert as rainfall continued.
