Earthquake in Venezuela
On 24 June 2026, a rare and powerful seismic doublet struck north-central Venezuela, with two major earthquakes of magnitude 7.2 and 7.5 occurring just 39 seconds apart near the Caribbean coast west of Caracas.
The event caused widespread damage across densely populated areas, including building collapses, disruption to critical infrastructure, and significant humanitarian impacts. The strongest earthquake to affect Venezuela in more than a century, the disaster prompted large-scale emergency response operations and international assistance efforts.
