Landslide in Sudan

On 31 August 2025, a massive landslide destroyed the village of Tarasin in the Marrah Mountains of Central Darfur, Sudan, after days of heavy rainfall. Reports estimated between 300 and 1,000 deaths, with only one known survivor, and about 100 bodies were recovered.

Aid groups described the area as extremely difficult to reach, and international agencies were urged to provide urgent assistance. The disaster, which occurred during Sudan’s peak flooding season, highlighted how climate change was worsening natural disasters in an already vulnerable region.
