Flood in Kazakhstan
In early July 2026, heavy rainfall triggered localized flooding and riverbank erosion across Kazakhstan’s Almaty Region, with the most affected areas in the Karasay and Enbekshikazakh districts.
In Karasay District, the Aksai River overflowed and caused significant bank erosion near Zhanaturmys village. The erosion led to soil instability in areas adjacent to a quarry, prompting local authorities to declare a state of emergency.
As a precautionary measure, residents of several nearby homes were temporarily evacuated. No casualties have been reported, and emergency services carried out relocations and immediate stabilization efforts.
In Enbekshikazakh District, intense rainfall and runoff led to rising water levels and localized flooding of roads and surrounding infrastructure. Transport disruptions were reported, with some road sections damaged or blocked.
Emergency response teams continue to reinforce riverbanks, clear debris, and restore access routes. Authorities have also issued ongoing warnings due to mudflow and landslide risks across the wider region amid continued unstable weather conditions.
