Earthquake in the Philippines

On the evening of 30 September, a 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck Bogo City in Cebu province, Philippines. In response, Cebu has declared a state of calamity.

Homes have been destroyed, bridges have collapsed, and the bell tower of an old church was among the structures reduced to rubble. Rescuers are working tirelessly to sift through debris in search of survivors, while authorities rush to deliver aid and restore electricity and communication lines.

The death toll currently stands at 69 and continues to rise. Wounded victims and other patients are being treated outside hospital buildings as aftershocks persist.

The earthquake comes just a week after the region was battered by back-to-back typhoons, the latest being Typhoon Ragasa.
