Landslide in Indonesia

Severe flooding in Indonesia was caused by heavy monsoon rains, particularly affecting Jakarta, West Java, Central Java, and parts of Sumatra. Flash floods and overflowing rivers submerged neighbourhoods, displaced tens of thousands of people, and caused at least 20 deaths. Infrastructure was heavily damaged, including roads, bridges, and public utilities, while agriculture also suffered significant losses.

The Indonesian government responded with emergency teams and relief efforts, providing food, water, and medical supplies to affected areas. Despite these efforts, the ongoing rainy season and the country’s vulnerability due to rapid urbanisation, deforestation, and poor drainage systems suggested that flooding could continue. The government focused on both immediate relief and longer-term mitigation strategies.
