Flood in Zambia
Zambia is facing increased flood risk during the 2025–2026 rainy season following episodes of intense and prolonged rainfall, with Eastern Province among the most affected areas.
On 30 December 2025, Lundazi District experienced severe flooding after several days of heavy rain, resulting in significant disruption to communities and essential services, including damage to key infrastructure such as bridges and dams. Preliminary assessments indicate that approximately 250 households across multiple rural and peri-urban communities were affected, with many experiencing property damage, displacement, and loss of essential belongings.
National authorities have warned that above-normal rainfall could impact up to 37 districts nationwide, potentially affecting hundreds of thousands of people as rivers overflow and floodplains become inundated.
The Government of Zambia has activated disaster preparedness and response measures, including pre-positioning relief supplies, while immediate relief efforts are underway and the situation continues to be monitored.
