Typhoon Ragasa in Philippines

Super Typhoon Ragasa (local name Nando), with sustained winds of about 215 km/h and gusts reaching 295 km/h, made landfall on 22 September 2025 over Panuitan Island in Cagayan province, northern Philippines.

The storm forced the evacuation of more than 8,000 residents in Cagayan and over 1000 in Apayao, but still left at least three people dead and five missing. Severe damage was reported on Calayan Island, where roofs were blown off and trees uprooted, while widespread power outages hit Calayan, Apayao, and Batanes.

Flooding, landslides, and dangerous seas disrupted access to coastal and remote areas, while schools, government offices, and transport services—including flights and ferries—were suspended across Manila and 29 other provinces. As Ragasa moves west-northwest, it is expected to pass south of Taiwan before threatening southern China, Guangdong, and Hong Kong, where authorities have begun evacuations, flight cancellations, and closures in anticipation of further flooding and storm surges.
