Flood in Dominican Republic
In April 2026, heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding across the Dominican Republic, affecting multiple provinces including the Distrito Nacional (Santo Domingo city area), Santo Domingo Province, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao area), La Vega, Monte Plata, and San Pedro de Macorís. Intense precipitation led to river overflow, urban flooding, and landslides, resulting in fatalities, displacement of thousands of people, and damage to homes, infrastructure, and agriculture.
Emergency authorities issued nationwide alerts, evacuated affected communities, and implemented response measures as conditions deteriorated between 9 and 27 April. The flooding disrupted essential services, including transport, electricity, water supply, and education, with significant impacts reported across both urban and rural areas.
