Flood in Bangladesh

In early July 2026, severe monsoon rainfall triggered widespread flash flooding and landslides across southeastern and northeastern Bangladesh. The worst impacts were reported in the Chattogram Division, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar and the Chattogram Hill Tracts, with northeastern districts including Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Habiganj also affected.

More than 1.28 million people were affected, with 59 deaths reported and approximately 436,000 people estimated to require humanitarian assistance. Over 74,000 homes were damaged or destroyed, while roads, water and sanitation infrastructure, agriculture and livestock also suffered significant losses.

By late July, floodwaters had receded in several areas and the response was transitioning towards recovery and rehabilitation. However, continued monsoon rainfall and the risk of further flooding and landslides remained a concern, particularly in Chattogram, Bandarban and Cox’s Bazar.
