The 36th Charter Executive Secretariat and Board Meetings are ongoing this week in Moscow, Russia. The meetings are hosted by the Russian State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS who have taken over as the Charter's lead agency for the next 6-month period, starting 17 October 2016.

On 1st of August 2016, the International Charter ‘Space and Major Disasters' was activated in response to flooding in Bangladesh. This marks the 500th activation of the Charter since it became operational in November 2000.

The International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" formed in November 2000 and has been providing a unified system of emergency response satellite data to areas that have been struck by disasters resulting in loss of life and widespread destruction around the world.
