On 20 April a co-operation agreement was signed between the International Charter Space and Major Disasters and the Copernicus Emergency Management Service (Copernicus EMS) associating efforts to access satellite data and derived information products showing the impact of large disasters in the world.

The 39th Charter Executive Secretariat and Board Meetings are ongoing this week in Darmstadt, Germany. The meetings are hosted by the European Organisation for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) who have, jointly with the German Aerospace Center (DLR), taken over as the Charter's lead agency for the next 6-month period, starting 17 April 2018.

On the International Day for Disaster Reduction, the International Charter 'Space and Major Disasters' agreement with the UN (UNITAR-UNOSAT) is to be extended to include the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

The 36th Charter Executive Secretariat and Board Meetings are ongoing this week in Moscow, Russia. The meetings are hosted by the Russian State Space Corporation ROSCOSMOS who have taken over as the Charter's lead agency for the next 6-month period, starting 17 October 2016.

On 1st of August 2016, the International Charter ‘Space and Major Disasters' was activated in response to flooding in Bangladesh. This marks the 500th activation of the Charter since it became operational in November 2000.
