Earthquake and eruption of Kīlauea Volcano in the United States

Kīlauea Volcano in Hawaii erupted on 4 May, and the island also experienced a magnitude 6.9 earthquake on the same day. 2000 people have been evacuated from the area and hundreds of homes in the path of the eruption are at risk, but no casualties have been reported.

Severe flooding has occurred in the Volgogradskaya Oblast Region of Russia following vast amounts of snow melting. The melting snow has caused the water levels of rivers in the region to rise and flood nearby areas.

Cyclone Hola in New Caledonia

New Caledonia's weather centre has pre-warned the public as Tropical Cyclone Hola draws closer to the Pacific archipelago. The storm is also expected to affect the Loyalty Islands; first Ouvéa at 14:00 UTC, Lifou and Tiga at 17:00 UTC and finally Maré at 20:00 UTC on 09 March 2018.

Aircraft crash in Iran

A plane has crashed in a mountainous region of southern Iran, with all 65 passengers and crew being killed. The crash site is within the Zagros moutain range near the remote mountain town of Semirom, approximately 600km south of Tehran.
