Typhoon in the Philippines

Typhoon Durian ("Reming"), a category 4 storm, hit the islands of the Philippines on 29 November, where the southern part of Luzon island was heavily affected. Gusts of 225-265 km per hour caused extensive damage. By 1st December media reported over 1,000 deaths and hundreds of thousands of evacuees following the strong winds, heavy rain and resulting landslides around Mount Mayon, about 320 km south of Manila.
