Oil Spill in Ecuador

On January 16, 2001, the Acotramar fuel tanker Jessica ran aground at port Baquerizo Moreno on San Cristobal Island. Operations were initiated to evacuate the fuel from the ship, but by January 18th fuel began leaking into the sea. On January 26, the European Commission Civil Protection Unit requested Charter images for use in monitoring the spill.

For more information on the oil spill and its effects, see the Galapagos National Park press release.
