Heavy rain caused a deadly landslide in Indonesia on 12 December 2014, which buried Jemblung Village.

64 people have died, and another forty more are unaccounted for and may still be buried.

Jemblung Village is located in the Banjarnegara District on the island of Java, in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago. Indonesia regularly experiences flooding and landslides during torrential downpours.

Other villages in the area, including Sampang Village, were also affected by the landslide, and it is believed that hundreds of homes in the area have been destroyed. Approximately 600 survivors have been given shelter in other nearby villages.

Due to the area's location, continuing rain, and the effect of the landslide and floods, relief efforts for the village were hindered. Rescue workers had no recourse but to dig through the debris with their bare hands or using whatever tools were available on the day after the landslide because access to the village for heavy equipment was blocked by the disaster. The equipment arrived on 14 December, however, aiding the rescue.

Currently over a thousand people are working to search for any other survivors.
