Heavy rain and floods have swept across Sudan over the past few days. Khartoum State being the most affected area; 38 people have been killed, dozens more are left injured and 7,259 homes have been destroyed.
Other known affected areas are; Karari, Um Bada, Khartoum North and the Nile River.
The Sudanese Government has been criticised by the media and its public for a poor response to the disaster. So far, the Government of Khartoum State has offered tents to affected areas and requested civil society organisations to provide relief support. A group of young students and political activists have launched the ‘Nafeer’ campaign in an effort to raise funds and provide aid to the affected areas.
Many areas still remain flooded, and the rains are expected to continue over the next few days.
