Flood in Japan

Torrential rain has caused floods and landslides in Japan's Kyushu region. Three people were killed and 847,000 people were evacuated.

The Japan Meteorological Agency reported the weather in Kyushu as "unprecedented" levels of heavy rain and issued a maximum warning for floods and landslides. On 28 August authorities issued a warning to evacuate due to the worsening situation in Fukoka, Saga and Nagasaki prefectures. The Ushizu and Matsuura Rivers burst their banks, flooding nearby areas and farms.

Meteorologists downgraded the flood warning in the evening on 28 August, but the flood waters remain and further rain is still forecast in the region.
