Fire in Guatemala

Forest fires are affecting a large area in Guatemala of approximately 450 square km. The Jalapa and Peten departments have particularly been affected.

CONRED, the National Coordinating Agency for Disaster Reduction of Guatemala, has reported that as of 29 April, fires have consumed 2,754 hectares of forest. 665 hectares in Jalapa and 487 in Peten.

There are currently 1,157 active fires in Guatemala, 813 of which are forest fires and 344 are other types.
