Fire in Cordoba, Argentina

Wildfires have struck the Cordoba province of Argentina, caused by high seasonal temperatures and strong winds. Firefighters have been struggling to put a halt to the flames and hundreds of people have been evacuated. It is estimated that thousands of hectares of land have been affected.

One of the worst affected areas of Cordoba is Calamuchita where 450 people were evacuated and 30 houses were destroyed in Yacanto. In Paravachasca a further 130 people have been evacuated. 15,000 hectares of land have been affected by the fires.

In the town of Cosquin 50 people were cut off by the fires but were rescued on 09 September and are reported to be safe and in good health according to the Provincial Plan Fire Management.

Temperatures have reached heights of 40°C and weather forecasts indicate that there will be no change in conditions within the next few days, making it more difficult to control the dozens of fires.
