Description of the event

Hurricane Isabel made land in the United States on September 18, 2003 when it first struck the Outer Banks of North Carolina. It continued to migrate to the north and eventually impacted the states of Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, North Carolina and the District of Colombia. Hurricane Isabel was a category 2 hurricane that caused about 40 deaths and over $2 billion in damage. At one point, there were over 6 million people without power.
