Description of the event

Heavy rainfall beginning on June 9, 2002 in southern Manitoba, Canada and northern Minnesota, USA caused the highest rain-generated flood event on record, with river levels in Winnipeg cresting at 5.2 metres, and some areas recording over 30 cm of total rainfall. Large areas of farmland were flooded, causing concerns over the contamination of river and ground water due to hog farm runoff.
