Description of the event

Heavy flooding along the Saint John River hit New Brunswick, Canada.

Acquired: 05/05/2008 Recent rains and melting snow caused the Saint John River in New Brunswick to overflow its banks. Roads were closed and a number of buildings flooded. On April 30, in response to this emergency, Public Safety Canada activated the International Charter "Space and Major Disasters" to ensure continued satellite surveillance of the flooding. The flooded areas appear red and pale blue; submerged areas are shown in red, while partially submerged vegetated areas are in light blue. RADARSAT-1 image of May 5, 2008, 10:40:46 UTC.
