Welcome to the new Charter Website

This new website makes it easier for you to find all of the information you seek about the International Charter: Space and Major Disasters.

If this is the first time you are visiting our website, learn more about the Charter and what we do. If you are already familiar with the Charter, you will find all of the previous information and more.

Some of the new features include:

  • A guide describing how to become an Authorised User, which grants national disaster management authorities the ability to request data from the Charter through the concept of Universal Access.
  • A product library with all of the maps produced for the Charter. It is filterable by satellite, type of disaster, and country. There are almost 4000 maps now available.
  • Pages describing the types of disaster the Charter monitors. Our latest activation was for the eruption of the Fuego Volcano in Guatemala, for example, and so you can learn more about volcanoes and how satellites are used to monitor them.
  • Improved presentation of the activation pages, which are also filterable by type of disaster, country and date range. This demonstrates the work the Charter is doing, with information and maps available for all of the disasters the Charter has been requested to help with. There have been 576 activations since the Charter was founded in 2000.
  • Subscribe for the Charter Newsletter. If you'd like to receive periodic news about the ativity of the Charter, simply enter your email in the form in the footer of the website and then confirm that you are happy to receive our newsletter.
