Hurricane Fiona in Canada

Hurricane Fiona was a large, powerful, and destructive Category 4 Atlantic hurricane which was the costliest and most intense tropical or post-tropical cyclone to hit Canada on record.

It came ashore as a post-tropical cyclone on 24 September and in the following days it continued north, damaging parts of Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Quebec provinces.

Many homes and businesses were without power after power lines were knocked down by extreme winds. Trees were up-rooted and many roads were blocked.

Due to the storm, heavy rainfall caused flooding to many areas. In coastal regions, waves completely washed away some houses.

Before reaching Canada, the storm also affected the Dominican Republic and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
