Flood in Nigeria

A devastating flood struck Mokwa town, Nigeria, on 28 May.

Continuous heavy rainfall led to sudden and severe flooding, with people watching helplessly as the water swept away their families. The death toll has risen to 200, while 500 people remain missing. In an effort to prevent disease, authorities will soon begin exhuming corpses buried underground in Mokwa’s district.

Floodwaters submerged 500 houses, displacing 3,000 residents.

Mokwa, a key commercial hub for agriculture and trade, has suffered extensive damage, with roads and bridges destroyed by the flooding. There are growing concerns about the ripple effect on the local economy and transportation.
