Flood in Brazil
On June 18, 2025, the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul was hit by severe flooding after intense rainfall exceeding 350 mm in some areas, leading to at least two deaths, widespread evacuations of over 2,600 people, and significant damage to infrastructure including roads, bridges, and power lines.
Flash floods and landslides struck multiple cities, prompting the deployment of Brazilian Army rescue teams.
Authorities cited improved preparedness since last year’s deadly floods, though the recurrence of such extreme weather highlights growing climate-related risks in the region.
