Earthquake in Afghanistan

A magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck areas in East Afghanistan on 22 June, causing at least 1,150 casualties.

The disaster mainly affected the Paktika and Khost provinces at the borders with Pakistan. Homes and other buildings in the mountainous region were damaged, with commonly mud-built structures offering little protection against the earthquake.
