Flooding in Brazil
In Brazil's Bahia state after a long drought, weeks of heavy rain have overwhelmed already swollen rivers. Two dams burst and flooded surrounding towns. The rains have caused at least 18 deaths since the beginning of November and thousands of people have been moved from some of the 67 towns facing further flooding.
Rescue workers have been patrolling in small dinghies around the city of Itabuna, in southern Bahia, rescuing residents from their homes. Bahia Governor Rui Costa has communicated that 72 municipalities to be in a state of emergency.
