The 20th annual report of the International Charter is now available, and describes the Charter's activities throughout 2020.

The Charter was activated 55 times in 2020, covering disasters in 33 countries. By the end of 2020, the Charter had been triggered for 692 disasters in 127 countries since 2000.

Seven new countries joined the Charter's Universal Access initiative in 2020; the Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Haiti, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad & Tobago in 2020. This granted them the status of Authorized Users, allowing them to request satellite data from the Charter in the event of a major disaster in their countries.

A number of new satellites joined the Charter's virtual constellation: ALSAT-1B, CBERS-4A, FY-3D, FY-3C, FY-2H, FY-4A, VRSS-2, SAOCOM-1A/1B, ICEYE-X2/4/5, and the RADARSAT Constellation Mission (RCM).

The Charter continued it's cooperation with UNOOSA, UNITAR/UNOSAT, Sentinel Asia, the Copernicus Emergency Management Service, and the Committee on Earth Observation Satellites (CEOS) in 2020. Each organization worked with the Charter in different ways, including promoting the Charter and use of satellite data for emergency response, sharing maps produced for disasters the Charter was activated for, and supporting the Charter as Project Managers of activations.

Ths most notable example of an activations in 2020 was the flood in India, which affected more than 1,300,000 people and killed 1,922.
