Wildfire in Serbia

Wildfires are actively expanding across Serbia as part of a widespread outbreak. A prolonged rainfall deficit has triggered a severe agricultural drought, devastating crop yields in northern and western Serbia.

More than 600 individual fires have erupted across the country over the last few weeks; meanwhile, emergency response teams are still actively battling the perimeters. Tragically, one man died in an open-air fire in the Serbian city of Smederevo from carbon monoxide poisoning and severe burns.

Smaller blazes have intensified on Mount Stolovi (near Kraljevo), where crews are fighting extreme, rocky terrain alongside a dangerous roadside fire that suddenly erupted along the major highway between Novi Sad and Sirig.

The Serbian Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) has issued warning alerts indicating that temperatures will continuously spike between 35°C and 42°C. Paired with strengthening southerly winds, meteorologists warn that conditions remain highly volatile for new, rapid fire outbreaks.
