Cyclone Jude in Mozambique
Tropical storm Jude made landfall in Mozambique on March 10, bringing with it intense rainfall and powerful winds. The Mossuril district in Nampula province recorded rainfall and wind speeds reaching 140 km/h, according to reports.
Jude resulted in extensive flooding and destruction of infrastructure, making many people homeless and without power. The circumstances in Mozambique are already precarious, as humanitarian response capabilities are strained due to persistent challenges, including the outbreak of cholera and food shortages exacerbated by the prior cyclones, Chido in December 2024 and Dikeledi in January 2025.
Jude was predicted to lose strength and drift westward from northern Mozambique into Malawi. Between March 11-12, the storm was anticipated to shift its path, heading southeast through central Mozambique. By March 13-14, it was expected to cross the Mozambique Channel, and on March 14-15, it was forecasted to hit the southern part of Madagascar.
