Flooding in Chad
A state of emergency was declared in the central African country of Chad over flooding that affected more than a million people along the Logon and Chari rivers.
Floods are not uncommon during Chad's rainy season but in 2022 the rains came early and were the heaviest in decades.
The worst affected areas were the southern provinces of Mayo Kebbi Est, Logone Occidental, Tandjile, Moyen Chari and Mandoul.
