Flood in Senegal

Torrential rainfall between 2–5 October 2026, peaking on 4 October, triggered flash flooding across Senegal. Rainfall totals reached 142 mm in 24 hours at Rufisque and Ranérou and 138 mm at Dakar-Yoff.

Dakar and its surrounding suburbs were among the worst affected, with flooding reported in several densely populated areas, disrupting transport and affecting homes, public facilities and other infrastructure. Floodwaters also affected parts of the Dakar toll motorway and the Philippe Maguilène Senghor Hospital, where patients were evacuated.

Building and wall collapses were reported in several locations, with fatalities recorded in Dakar, Matam and Kaolack. The situation has placed additional pressure on local emergency and civil-protection services, while authorities continue to assess the extent of the damage and assist affected communities.
