Flood in Nigeria

A devastating flood struck Mokwa town, Nigeria, on 28 May.

Continuous heavy rainfall led to sudden and severe flooding, with people watching helplessly as the water swept away their families. The death toll rose to 200, while 500 people remained missing. In an effort to prevent disease, authorities soon began exhuming corpses buried underground in Mokwa’s district.

Floodwaters submerged 500 houses and displaced 3,000 residents. Mokwa, a key commercial hub for agriculture and trade, suffered extensive damage, with roads and bridges destroyed by the flooding.

There were growing concerns about the ripple effect on the local economy and transportation.
