Flood in Morocco

Northern Morocco faced severe flooding after heavy rains caused the Loukkos River to swell and overflow, placing Ksar El Kebir under a maximum flood alert.

Authorities reported that the region had received over 600 mm of rainfall since the previous autumn, filling the Oued El Makhazine dam to capacity and forcing controlled water discharges that increased downstream flood risk.

Civil protection teams and emergency services were deployed to reinforce barriers, pump water, and evacuate residents from vulnerable neighbourhoods, while transport was disrupted across northern roads due to rising wadi flows.

In Tetouan, heavy rainfall led to the temporary closure of Tetouan–Sania R’mel Airport, highlighting the wider impact on infrastructure. Officials warned that flood risks could persist as further heavy showers and strong winds were forecast.
