Flood in the Marshall Islands

Powerful waves hit the coast of the Marshall Islands in the night of 20 January. Damage from the floods caused local people to evacuate, but no deaths were recorded.

The storm caused a small tsunami, which affected Ailinglaplap Atoll, Arno Atoll, and Roi-Namur island. Waves reached as high as one metre and a half, multiple buildings were severely flooded.

Two airports in Ailinglaplap Atoll were flooded, leaving rocks and coral debris in the wake of the storm surge. At least one-third of Roi-Namur Island was also flooded, according to reports.
