Tropical Cyclone Maila in Solomon Islands

Severe Tropical Cyclone Maila is currently impacting the Solomon Sea region, posing significant risks to the Solomon Islands, particularly the Western Province islands and nearby coastal communities. The system has rapidly intensified to a Category 5 cyclone, with sustained winds of approximately 205 km/h and destructive gusts reaching 230 km/h.

Heavy rainfall, storm surge, coastal flooding, dangerous surf, and potential landslides are expected across low-lying islands and coastal settlements, while rough seas continue to disrupt inter-island transport across regions west of Honiara and the wider Solomon Sea.
