Tropical Cyclone Honde in Madagascar
Tropical Cyclone Honde passed approximately 90 km off Madagascar’s south-western coast between 28 February and 1 March, bringing heavy rainfall and sustained winds of up to 137 km/h
The cyclone caused widespread flooding, damaging 7,200 homes and completely destroying 1,900. An estimated 21,600 people were displaced across Toliara, Belo sur Tsiribihina, and Ampanihy districts, while over 43,200 people were affected overall. The disaster resulted in three confirmed fatalities, one missing person, and 69 injuries.
The Government and its partners launched a coordinated aid response to assist affected communities.
