Landslide in Uganda

Heavy rains have caused flash floods and landslides across western parts of Uganda. 22 people are reported have been killed across Busaru and Harugale sub-counties.

Landslides have damaged bridges connecting Bubiita and Buwali counties, and the River Manafa bridge connecting the Bulucheke and Bushiyi counties. Several houses were also reported as destroyed or damaged at Kirindi Town.

Relief efforts have also been hampered as police reported that access to areas affected by landslides is difficult due to blocked roads. 300 families have been displaced and are currently seeking shelter in churches and schools.

Weather forecasts predict further moderate rainfall over central and southern regions of Uganda in the coming days.
