Tropical Cyclone Wipha in Laos (Lao People's Democratic Republic)

Tropical Cyclone Wipha caused severe flooding and landslides across several provinces in Laos. In Houaphanh Province, seven people were reported missing, and many villages were flooded.

Since mid-June 2025, southern provinces such as Savannakhet and Saravan have experienced rapidly rising rivers, which flooded over 50 villages and damaged homes, farmland, and roads. In early July, northern and central regions—including Vientiane, Luang Prabang, and Khammuan—faced landslides and flash floods, resulting in at least one death and several missing persons.

This flooding follows last year’s destructive monsoon season, which displaced tens of thousands and caused widespread infrastructure damage.

Authorities have issued ongoing flood warnings, deployed emergency response teams, and urged residents in high-risk areas to stay alert as rainfall is expected to continue.
